Pin tailed Whydah finches
The male's are know for their striking, long tail feathers during breeding season, which can add 20 cm to its body length. Males perform acrobatic, bouncing flight displays to attract mates.
Outside the breeding season, males and females look similar, with streaky brown and white plumage, but the male retains a bright red bill, while the female's bill becomes dusky.
Size and weighting adults: 12–13cm in length although the breeding male's tail adds another 20cm to this. Pintail Whydahs weigh around 26g.
Diet: primarily granivorous, feeding on a wide variety of grass seeds, grains, and seed heads found on the ground or in vegetation. Their diet can have added supplemented with insects. Always provide fresh water.
